Ethical and practical applications of Aikido principles to trauma treatment (November 8, Seattle WA)

This workshop for therapists who treat trauma survivors will introduce the use of concepts and movement strategies from Aikido, the martial art of peace. We will base our work on current findings about the neuroscience of trauma, and focus on interventions that affect the polyvagal system and the stress response system. The relational nature of Aikido, and its potential to generate healing connections between therapists and trauma survivor clients, will serve as the foundation for the techniques taught at this workshop. No prior martial arts experience is necessary for participation in this class, which I will be co-teaching with Kimberly Richardson Sensei, 6th Dan and Director of the Two Cranes Institute.
