What does egalitarian look like? Dynamics of empowerment in feminist practice (August 10, Washington DC)

This presentation, part of the symposium Psychotherapy Revealed: A Glimpse of Eminent Psychotherapists in Session, illustrates how I attempt to develop egalitarian relationship in therapy, using examples of my work from the APA video series. Egalitarian interactions are theorized to be at the heart of the feminist treatment model of empowerment, and can be challenging to generate, particularly when clients pull for a more hierarchical model of interaction. Countertransference responses to such pulls, and strategies for grounding the therapist in the egalitarian perspective, will be addressed.
